Madison was named for James Madison, the fourth President of the United States. He grew up near the bustling railroad track in pre-Civil War Mississippi. The Illinois Central Railroad opened its Madison Station in 1856. In 1985 Madison was reclassified as a city and has flourished in its growth from a small town into a carefully planned city. Strict ordinances, such as designating architectural controls, providing landscape and building guidelines have helped to preserve the charm and integrity of one of Mississippi?s fastest growing cities.

Madison is just a 10 minute drive from Jackson, the state's capital and largest city. You can find the best in shopping, entertainment, medical services, education and cultural offerings. In less than 3 hours you can visit New Orleans, Mobile, Memphis or you can enjoy the offerings of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
